"Everyday News" From Leah
I get so heart sick every time I watch the news. I think the worst thing is hearing about crimes committed against babies
and infants. I don't know about everyone else but to my way of thinking babies are about the most sacred things on Earth.
The pure embodiment of innocence. Totally helpless. But they are so perfect. Their entire existence at that point is learning
and wonder. Constant amazement. I can't image a more enlightened state of being. In fact it's the state that I'm constantly
striving for. Minus the constant crying and excretion. Funny it's like I start there and I'm always working to get back. Like
divine regression. And the more I see the more scared I get because I watch as babies are treated less and less like human
beings. A murderer is not judged for the severity of the crime but for the value of the life of the victim. So what is sacred
is subjugated to the illusions of society. Who cares if this innocent little life was tossed into a dumpster to die of exposure.
These poor scared teenage morons who couldn't keep it in their pants or figure out how to use a fucking condom shouldn't be
blamed. Why, they're only so selfish that, rather than take responsibility for their actions, they decided to murder someone.

"Each day when I check out the news, I am shocked at what the people in our society are actually capable of. What's even
more amazing to me is that because of the high volume of disturbing news, we tend to shrug these things off as if they were
normal, every day occurrences. A woman chopping off her husband's penis? (Haha.) Girls delivering and then murdering their
own babies? (Yawn.) How about a woman taking out her own breast implants in the privacy of her own home? ("Honey, could
you pass the remote...") "I feel that the majority of people today look upon these situations as humorous
or entertaining. In response, I have recreated these scenarios and photographed them in my own warped yet sadly realistic
way. These photos obviously are not documentary. On the contrary, I have added humor, bold color and a touch of the absurd
to make them visually stimulating and pleasing to the eye. Although my graphic nature and sarcastic sense of humor may suggest
that I too am ridiculing these events, the undertone in each photograph is extremely serious. The purpose of this project
is not to offend, but rather to provoke thought and bring to people's awareness the disturbing realities of today's society."
